North DeSoto, Calvary fall short in LHSAA softball semis

SULPHUR, La. -
Making an unlikely LHSAA Class 4A softball semifinal appearance, No. 15 seeded North DeSoto was trying to continue their Cinderella run in the postseason Saturday.  The Lady Griffins took on Vandebilt Catholic, but couldn't get any offense going.  They fell 7-0 to end their season.
"I thought they were pressing. I thought that's what they were doing. We got down and, so, we'd turn our head. On the bunt we turned our head and then thinking about the next play. I think because we were down we were pressing too much and made some errors. And you know with girls sometimes when you get one it just kind of starts up," North DeSoto head coach Lori McFerren said. "This team is for real. These girls are for real. I have great assistant coaches. This whole program is just getting better and better and I'm really proud of them. But I know that our expectations are to win a state championship and I'm telling you we'll be back."

In the Class 1A state semifinals, Calvary's playoff run ends with a 4-1 loss to Holy Savior Menard. The Lady Cavs held much of the momentum early taking a 1-0 lead until a pitching change by Menard really threw Calvary off balance and changed the momentum in the game.

"She threw a little harder and we swung at a couple of pitches we shouldn't have and they just didn't quite adjust to it. As soon as we scored one run everybody kind of relaxed and we were ready to go. When they ended up getting those two and we had a wild throw we felt the pressure and that kind of changed the momentum to their favor," Calvary head coach Tiffany Bruton said. "I'm very proud of them. We had a couple of things we didn't execute on. We knew Menard was going to be tough. It ended up being a tough loss, but I couldn't be more proud of them they fought through it until the end."
