Evangel makes it happen

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La - Evangel passed a tough playoff test Monday night, taking down Livonia 4-3 in the first round.  Livonia led the Eagles 3-2 going into the 6th inning, until a solo home run knotted things up at 3 and set the stage for Blake Buckman's walk off single in the 7th.

It was a strange road to the playoffs for Livonia.  The Wildcats, who were ranked in the top ten at the end of the season,  were forced to forfeit 18 games due to an ineligible player.  They then won a court battle last week which ordered them in the playoffs for a "play-in" game against 31st seeded Kaplan for a trip to Shreveport.

"It's not your typical first round game but it's exactly the kind of game, once we knew Livonia was in it,  that it would be.  We knew they had a great arm out there", said Evangel head coach Tim Hulett.  His Eagles will now hit the road to take on 18th seeded St. Louis.

There was plenty of talk concerning the youth on LSU's roster coming into the season. While they did grab a win in week one against Wisconsin, Saturday night's matchup was just proof that the Tigers are a work in progress
