"Fishing with Firefighters" nurtures Shreveport youth

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

The Shreveport Fire Department embraces the opportunity to teach local 5th graders the importance of water safety while introducing them to some good ole' fashioned early morning fishing.

SFD is partnering with the Cross Lake Fish Hatchery for a month-long event called "Fishing with Firefighters". The event began Monday, April 14th and ends Thursday, May 15th, 2014.

Firefighters help by lending their time and talent to nurture these young minds by showing them that those who they perceive as heroes are really everyday people willing to share some basic water safety knowledge and have little fun fishing at the same time.

By getting involved, firefighters realize it is an opportunity to impact the lives of more than 400 students attending Caddo Parish Schools.

Elton John, R. Kelly, Mary J. Who knew 14 years ago that an empty lot would turn into an entertainment destination for singers , performers and fans from all around the world.
