SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) - The Louisiana House of Representatives passed the bill proposing a hotel-motel tax in the Shreveport-Bossier City area Tuesday afternoon.

For more than 10 minutes, Burrell stood in front of the House with a number of representatives from the northwest delegation standing behind him. He answered several questions from different representatives, including fellow Shreveport Rep. Barbara Norton.

The bill now goes to the Senate Municipal Committee. If it passes the state legislature, voters in Shreveport and Bossier City will decide if it will go into place.

The bill imposes a 2.5 percent tax on hotels and motels. The money raised will go to three different organizations who try to attract business and additional tourists to the area.
