Independence Bowl game drive approaches mid-field

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La - The Louisiana House of Representatives Tuesday took a major step to help the Duck Commander Independence Bowl, the sports commission and the airport by passing the hotel tax bill which would provide much-needed added revenue for each of those entities.  The bill passed overwhelmingly 62-21.

For the bowl game, which would stand to get 37.5-percent of the revenue it could be a game-changer on many fronts.  Bowl chairman Paul Pratt has told KTBS 3 Sports that revenue would not only help move the bowl game up in the pecking order to select teams, but would immediately help create a kickoff classic game.

The bill next goes to the Senate Municipal Committee and if it passes there it will go to the full senate and if it passes there then it will be on the ballot in November where voters in Shreveport-Bossier will ultimately decide if the bowl game gets the shot in the arm it has said could make it even more of a player in the bowl business.
