Texarkana, Texas -

Each year law enforcement officers in Texas pause to honor fallen officers, but this year's ceremony in Texarkana including one of their own.

Officer William Jason Sprague, 30, was killed in the line of duty last June while responding to a disturbance at Grady T. Wallace park.

He died from injuries sustained from a hit and run.

In a solemn ceremony, law enforcement and community leaders gathered to pay their respect to Texas officers who lost their life in the line of duty in 2013.

There were 13 officer names on the End of Watch roll call including Officer Sprague.

"To see Caden's face and to see how proud he is of his daddy, it means alot to me as a mom," said Stephanie Sprague, Officer Sprague's widow.

Stephanie, their son Caden, 5, and Officer Sprague's mother, Marsa Green, received a police cross from Chief Dan Shiner.

The award is only given out posthumously to fallen officers to pay tribute to their service and ultimate sacrifice.

"It was heartbreaking to give that police cross to his widow, his mother, and his young son," said Chief Shiner.

It was almost a year ago that the cards, condolences and letters of support came pouring into the police department and to the family.

Chief Shiner says that support is still strong.

Sprague had been a night-shift officer since January 2012.

His death is the fourth in the line of duty death for the Texarkana, Texas Police Department.
