Man uses body cavity to smuggle cell phone into CCC

Posted: Updated:
Last Tuesday, Anthony Alvey, 22, was transferred from the Madison Detention Center to the Caddo Correctional Center. Alvey was booked, searched and a cell phone was found in his rectum. The sheriff's office found it with a full body scanner that can take pictures deep within the body. The device works to keep not  only prisoners safe but the public.

"The guy did not stick the phone up himself and hide it and ride on it for five hours so that he could call his mom on Sunday. Okay," Sheriff Steve Prator said.
Prator says cell phones are a dangerous form of contraband and doesn't believe Alvey wanted his for innocent usage. Prator says prisoners can use phones to harass or intimidate their victims, plan crimes and more.

The scanners have found more immediate dangers inside prisoners, like knifes or drugs. Prator says the most unusual item has been food.

"It's the seedy part of law enforcement and corrections that people don't understand we have to continuously be on the lookout for," Prator said.

Alvey has been charged for bringing in the contraband and could face additional time. The CCC has two of the full body scanners, which cost nearly $400 thousand.
