SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Shreveport Police have arrested a man who allegedly committed an armed robbery of a local business Wednesday night in west Shreveport.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on May 7, Shreveport police officers responded to the Dollar General store in the 4600 block of Mansfield Road, relative to an armed robbery of the business.

When they got there, a witness said a man wearing all dark clothing, with a mask over his face, entered the business armed with a gun and demanded the clerk open the register.

The clerk complied with the suspect, who fled the business after making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Minutes following the robbery, a patrol officer spotted a vehicle traveling in the 2500 block of Midway Avenue, which had a similar description as the vehicle officers were looking for.  The vehicle was stopped and that's when the officer determined the passenger inside the vehicle fit the physical description of the suspect described in the robbery.

Further investigation revealed the man, Xavier Anderson, 24, of Shreveport, had evidence specific to the robbery inside the car. Anderson was arrested and taken to Shreveport Police headquarters where he was booked and is now facing a single count of armed robbery.

Authorities say it appears Anderson acted alone in the crime.
