Caddo commissioners move forward with new homeland security office

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -
Last year, Bossier Parish decided to pull its funding from the Caddo-Bossier Homeland Security Office and form their own cheaper office. Caddo Parish must do the same. Commissioners passed Resolution 16 of this year during their meeting Thursday. This allows the parish administrator to enter into an agreement with the city and sheriff's office that will create a Caddo-Shreveport Office of Homeland Security.
It's estimated that the office will cost the three entities roughly $180,000. They'll divide up the cost based on need, but the over all cost should be lower without Bossier Parish. Dr. Woodrow Wilson, parish admin., says Caddo paid $38,800 in 2013 and for 2015 it should fall by six grand. The resolution allows for job postings for the new office's staff. Wilson says each entity must vote for the director.
"H.R. department will go through and screen the candidates," Wilson said. "Those with the best qualifications or credentials, we'll interview those candidates and we'll pick the best person."
Parish leaders have until July first to create the Caddo-Shreveport homeland security office and hire staff. The office will be held within the 911 call center.
Commissioners also introduced ordinances that will allow for the renewal of or chances to property tax millages. They'll discuss that topic during their next meeting later this month.
