Dozens attend soft opening of Shreveport Downtown Pop UP Project

The public got a sneak peak at what shops will be at the first Downtown Pop UP Project during a soft opening Thursday evening.

It started at 5pm. The business owners were a little tense before, but eager to share their products with Shreveport.

“I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to expose my work to people I might otherwise not get to meet, and them having an opportunity to take a look, see if there's anything they like and maybe commission a piece,” said Sarah Lewis, with Sarah Joy Lewis Fine Art.

Lewis put the finishing touches on her store front in the Red River District Thursday afternoon. It's the first one she has ever had, and she said the location could not be better.

“Especially for an artist like me, where having downtown real estate is maybe a pipe dream, being able to come in for two weeks and having all the exposure and meet other artists, other start up ventures,” she said.

The unknown excited Laura Vanderbilt and her husband, Jeff. They transform Haute Goat Creamery from a farmers' market staple to a brick and mortar store in Shreveport.

“Of course we're hoping to reach more people and to take more time with people and really explain what we do,” said Vanderbilt. “[We want] for them to learn more about our business rather than just a quick sample of cheese and then off.”

Haute Goat Creamery only had hours to set up, so Vanderbilt knows the store will not stay this way through out the two weeks.

“This is really just trying to get our feet wet tonight, let everyone know we're here,” she said. “I think we'll evolve.”

The downtown pop up project begins Monday at 10am until 5pm. However, the stores can choose to open earlier or stay open later in the day. The 12 shops will be in the Red River District until May 23rd.
