PANOLA COUNTY (Panola Watchman) -

According to the PanolaWatchman.com, around 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, the Panola County Courthouse was evacuated and closed for the remainder of the day after employees in the Tax Assessor/Collector's office found a strong smell of natural gas in their basement vault.

Courthouse officials said all personnel were cleared from the building as quickly as possible and would return to their posts Monday morning.

City Fire Marshal Duane Baushke said representatives of CenterPoint Energy were on the scene working to fix the problem, which is on their side of the damaged line.

Officials said they were unsure how the natural gas infiltrated the Assessor/Collector’s vault.
