TAPD investigate masked man claiming to have infected women with HIV

Posted: Updated:
TEXARKANA, Ark. - Police are investigating a man who posted a video claiming he knowingly infected dozens of Texarkana women with HIV.

The video confession was posted on social media.

Police are trying to figure if his bold claims are evidence of a terrible crime or just a terrible hoax.

In the video the masked man says, "Hi. My name is Joe and I'm from Shreveport. I've infected many women in Texarkana and I have a list of their names."

He goes on to list more than 30 names of women he may have infected with the AIDS virus.

Texarkana, Arkansas Police Spokesperson Kristi Mitchell says they've received calls about the video allegations, but so far no charges have been filed.

"Detectives are looking into the validity of this video. They're asking that any female named in the video to come forward to speak with detectives and possibly file charges if it's a true event," said Officer Mitchell.

TXK Today reports the video was posted a little more than a day ago and already has more than 3,000 shares.

Officer Mitchell says anytime someone posts something on Facebook, or the internet, it leaves a footprint everytime.

"Whenever you put anything in digital media it's going to link back to you in some form or fashion. It makes it alot easier for police," explained Mitchell.

The names of the alleged victims have been left out to protect their privacy.

Texarkana, Texas Police say they've also received calls about the video, but the Arkansas-side is leading the investigation.

If you have any information that could help police, call Texarkana Crimestoppers at 903-793-STOP.

Depending on the circumstances, the man could be charged with harassment, or even a felony, if it's discovered that he purposely exposed someone to a dangerous disease.
