AG files notice of appeal in gay marriage case

Posted: Updated:
Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has told a judge he's appealing a ruling striking down the state's gay marriage ban.

McDaniel's office on Saturday filed a notice of appeal with Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza, who a day earlier struck down a 2004 constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Piazza also struck down a similar 1997 state law.

McDaniel is appealing the case to the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Piazza didn't stay his ruling, and the Carroll County clerk on Saturday began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. McDaniel has asked Piazza to stay his ruling as it appeals the case.
