Bob Griffin Griffin's Good Life: Bill Bush

Posted: Updated:
He's been making music for six decades and today, both for enjoyment and a livelihood, it's a big part of his living the good life.

70 year old widower Bill Bush at the piano and his younger brother vocally helping out, is a common sight at the Bush house.

Bush, played and sang since he was 15 but 't didn't' plan on making music his life's work.

'No. I tried and went and got a college education. I tried some day work but really it just seemed like music was the best avenue for me and my wife Judy actually encouraged me.'

So with a piano, organ or keyboard his office, Bush, who also sings, has been a professional musician for over half a century. He became one of the area's best known. Along the way he owned his own nightclub The Moulin Rouge from 71 to 90. Today, Bush who plays at different venues on a regular basis, still likes making music.

"I could be having bad day and when I start playing music that all goes away. It's just very satisfying to play music."
As for musically keeping up with the times for his current engagements at places like Ernest's and the Advil.

"There's a generation gap now between me and the young people. So I try to find at least some songs that I can relate to them. But I'm really not up to date on the young stuff and then I don't know any rap music."

Professional musician Bill Bush, a Shreveport city councilman from 82-90, still active and leading the good life at 70.
On his bucket list, Bush, who once took his band to Scotland, wants to play at a piano bar in europe. Who knows, he just may do it.
