Texas man surrenders in connection to Nash homicide

An East Texas man wanted in connection with a weekend homicide in Nash, Texas turned himself Monday morning.

The shooting death happened Sunday night in the 1,000 block of North Kings Highway.

Austin Friend, 34, has been charged with murder in connection to the death of Larry Gray Junior, 31.

Nash, Texas police were dispatched Sunday night to the Pine Ridge Estates Trailer Park.

Detective Michael Sutton says Friend got into an argument with Gray who was dating his estranged wife.

"During the argument the suspect produced a gun and shot the man multiple times," said Sutton.

Authorities say Friend's estranged wife and three children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

They were not injured.

A manhunt for Friend ensued overnight by ground and air.

Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe says they were notified of Friend's whereabouts earlier Monday morning.

"A family member of Mr. Friend called an advised that he wanted to turn himself in over in the northeast part of Cass County," said Rowe.

Sheriff Rowe says Friend was taken into custody without incident.

This is not authorities first encounter with Friend.

Rowe says he has lengthy criminal record in Cass County that includes aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest and burglary.

Friend was arraigned in Cass County court Monday morning.

He's now being held at the Bi-State Jail in Texarkana.
