Benton's season ends in quarters again

Posted: Updated:
Benton, La. - Benton was knocked out of the playoffs last year in the quarterfinals.  Monday the Tigers hosted St. Michael and the Warriors broke the game open with a 10 nothing after the first 2 innings. The Tigers had plenty of scoring opportunities, even some bases loaded opportunities but couldn't get the runs in.

St. Michaels would add another run off Jordan Shaffer who came into relief in the 3rd inning and shut out the Warriors until allowing just one run in the 5th. Benton's season ends with an 11-0 loss.  It may be a lopsided score but head coach J.D. Stephens says the effort was there.  "We had our opportunity as far as offensively goes. We just couldn't get the timely hit. Unfortunately, we had bases loaded in the 1st, bases loaded in the 3rd, double play in the 4th and double play in the 5th kills rallies pretty quick. It doesn't take away what our guys did. They competed until the end. We didn't lay down. We could have easily gotten beat 20-0, but our guys gave up 10 the first 2 and ended up losing 11-0."
