SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

A few of SporTran's buses have a new look. Local businesses can now pay to wrap the buses with their logo.

Raising Cane's became the first SporTran advertiser in more than 20 years Monday morning. SporTran works with other companies to wrap more buses.

“The wraps will be going out and producing revenue for the system,” said Dinero Washington, general manager of SporTran. “We hope to turn that into technology for our customers and consumers.”

Washington said money from the federal and state governments as well as passenger fares is not enough to operate and improve the bus system.

“We have to have additional revenue, without going to the city and into tax payer's pockets saying, 'Hey we need you to pay for this system,'” he said. “Things like this is going to be able to produce things for our system of such nature.”

Washington said these upgrades will help improve how the system runs and cater to more people. It is something Mayor Cedric Glover thinks will help bring Shreveport's economy to a new level.

“In order to have an effective economy, you've got to have a good transportation system,” Glover said. “Not everybody has the where with all to be able to afford a good, reliable car… So it's important that we have a good, well planned, well done, well operated public transportation system in order to facilitate and support that.”

Some of the advertising money helps to bring on a new mobile app for SporTran called "Where's My Bus?" Riders will be able to see how far away the next bus is from the stop and terminal kind of like the arrival board at the airport.
