Tech pitch falls on deaf ears; C-USA tourney to Birmingham

Posted: Updated:
Destin, Fl - One day after Louisiana Tech athletic director Tommy McClelland and city officials made their case to bring the Conference-USA basketball tournament to Shreveport-Bossier next March, conference AD’s voted to award the tournament to the city of Birmingham and UAB.  Interesting on many fronts, not the least of which they are taking the tournament to the headquarter city of the SEC.

The tournament last March was held in El Paso, Texas and KTBS was the only television station in the state of Louisiana to attend.  UTEP did make another pitch to host along with LA Tech and Southern Miss.  Instead it is headed to Birmingham where UAB runs a distant third to Alabama and Auburn.. and where most media outlets  will likely be focused on the SEC tournament in Nashville.. at least until Alabama and Auburn are done.
