Investigation launched into crash that injures man

Posted: Updated:
Shreveport Police are investigating a Tuesday evening crash in east Shreveport that seriously injured a man.

Just before 9:45 pm last night, Shreveport Police officers were conducting a traffic stop on Creswell Avenue near Wilkinson Street after observing the driver of a dark colored Mercury Mountaineer commit a traffic violation.  Using their emergency lights, officers were able to get the vehicle's operator to pull to a stop.  As officers exited their patrol units to make contact with the operator, the SUV's driver reportedly sped off heading south bound on Creswell Avenue towards Kings Highway at a high rate of speed.

As the fleeing driver approached the intersection of Kings Highway at Creswell Avenue, he apparently lost control of the vehicle, which spun, striking a utility pole.  It is believed a man located on the ground near the crash site was an occupant inside the vehicle at the time the impact occurred.  The man whose identity is currently unknown, was transported to University Health Center with serious injuries.    It is believed a second occupant my have fled on foot from the wrecked vehicle, which came to rest just blocks from the initial location of the traffic stop.  Witnesses described seeing a male subject in dark clothing running from the scene on foot; however no additional occupants in the crash have been identified.  Shreveport Police Crash Investigators were dispatched to the scene of the accident and have since launched an investigation into the matter.
