Playhouse goes airborne: two children seriously hurt

Posted: Updated:
South Glen Falls, NY - It's a terrifying image of afternoon play gone horribly wrong. Police say a Little Tikes bounce house, despite being secured with stakes, flew away with three children inside Monday. A ten year old girl quickly fell out. As the toy flew higher and higher in strong winds, it dropped the remaining boys inside from 15 to 20 feet in the air. Taylor Seymour, an eyewitness, says "It was out of a horror movie...That poor little kid. He just came flying out of nowhere." Other witnesses say the bouncer continued to sail through the air as high as 50 feet. Little Tikes tells ABC news: "Providing safe and wholesome play experiences is of utmost importance to Little Tikes. We are looking into what happened in South Glens Falls..." In recent years accidents have even happened with other, larger types of models popular at carnivals and children's parties. In 2011 an inflatable slide went tumbling across a Long Island soccer field, sending 13 people to the hospital. Another 2011 bouncy castle in Arizona also went airborne, flipping several times before slamming into a pole. The Little Tikes models like the one in Monday's accident come with a warning not to use in windy weather because, "sudden gusts of wind may lift the product off the ground."
