SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) -

Over 40 pint-sized authors celebrated their published books at Barnes & Noble in Shreveport today.

The Herndon Magnet School kindergarteners converged on the store to have their books read out loud by members of the community.

This is the 17th year for the school's Awesome Authors project, and it's a chance for the students to show off their hard work.

Teachers say it's all about encouraging the kids to love reading.

"We've found that, over the years, writing the books helps them to increase their vocabulary, writing skills, and it gets them so excited about reading, more so that anything else we've found," says Christine Webb, kindergarten teacher at Herndon Magnet.

The kids even signed autographs on copies of their books for family and friends.
