NFL scout not a Manziel fan

Posted: Updated:
Berea, OH - There may be no more polarizing figure from this year's draft than Johnny Manziel.  Taken by the Cleveland Browns, Team owner Jimmy Haslam and Browns head coach Mike Pettine have made reference to Manziel to start acting like a back-up quarterback.

Sports Illustrated is not making that any easier this week by putting Manziel on one of its regional covers and calling him Johnny Better Be Good.  Teams may have been mixed on Manziel before the draft, but our expert, the Director of Operations for NFL Scouting Services, Dave-Te Thomas, has not change "his" opinion now that Manziel is with the Browns.

"Did you see him walking out there?  I don't know if you people watch that show 'Deadliest Catch?' There's one, how can I put it, less than spectacular boat captain there.  He's an arrogant guy. A little, how can I put it, ant? That's Johnny Manziel.  Johnny Manziel will be a pariah.  Johnny Manziel will be the reason why Mike Pettine will end up coaching baseball, literally baseball, in a couple of years.  I don't want this kid in my lockerroom, I don't want him on my team, I don't want him in my stadium.  That's how bad I feel this kid is going to be to any team.  (Q) The Browns owner, Jimmy Haslam says we've told him you need to start acting like a back-up quarterback because Brian Hoyer is the starter. (A) And then what does he do Paul? He comes up and makes that bogus dollar sign as he's walking out over there. Give me a break. Oh yeah, 'I'm going to conform.' You're going to conform, right. Yeah.  And Charles Manson is going to be taking over Romper Room."

Thomas has made a career of identifying those who "can" play in the NFL from those who won't make it.  His track record is not perfect, but it remains among the best the league has ever seen.
