An early morning accident and power outages could impact your morning commute

Posted: Updated:
An early morning accident tied up the morning commute for a lot of drivers.  It happened just before 4am in the 5800 block of Bert Kouns in front of Teleperformance.

The driver of a white GMC Yukon lost control of his vehicle and it flipped along the side if the road.  Remarkably he was able to walk away with minor injuries.

Now SWEPCO crews are trying to figure out what actually caused the top of the power poles at the scene to be severed, as two of the poles are completely knocked off near the top, where the wires connect.  About 2,500 people were without power near the Pines Rd Substation and Mansfield Rd at one point this morning.

SWEPCO crews say the outage happened before the car accident. They're working to determine the cause and restore power but say hopefully, they can have the power restored by 10 this morning.

Drivers in this area had to find an alternate route to work this morning as police, Caddo Parish sheriffs deputies, and an officer with the DA's office have Bert Kouns closed in both lanes near the 5800 block.
