DA drops case against homeowner in teen's shooting

Posted: Updated:
The Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office will not prosecute a New Orleans homeowner facing an attempted second-degree murder charge in the early morning shooting of a teenager, who was on his property.

District Attorney Leon A. Cannizzaro Jr. said Thursday that his office has closed its investigation of Merritt Landry, the homeowner, who was arrested for shooting the teenager in the head.

Police say the unarmed teen was on Landry's property about 2 a.m. July 26 when the shooting occurred. A neighbor said his security cameras allegedly show the teen scaling Landry's face.

Cannizarro says his office dropped the case after a grand jury could not agree whether to charge Landry with a crime. The teen has been arrested for burglary in a separate case since his recovery.
