Political football heads toward red zone for I-Bowl

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La - The potential revenue boost the Duck Commander Independence Bowl has been hoping for took another step toward becoming possible Thursday as the hotel-motel occupancy tax bill passed the Senate Local and Municipal Affairs Committee.. But it did so with one adjustment, changing the tax from 2.5 % to 2%.

That could still mean roughly an additional million dollars a year to the bowl game which it has said would help them launch a kickoff classic game and work to improve their standing in the pecking order of selecting teams.  Monies from the proposed tax would not just go to the bowl game, but to the airport authority and the sports commission.

The next step is for the bill to go to the full Senate and if it passes there it would return to the House because of Thursday’s adjustment and then, if it passes again, would be on the ballot in November for voters in Caddo and Bossier parishes, who would then make the final decision.
