Contractors working for SWEPCO were busy repairing high voltage electrical lines in southwest Shreveport Friday afternoon.  Several 139 KV lines broke from their mounts at a power sub station north of the 6000 block of Bert Kouns and east of Pines road early Thursday morning.  The incident occurred about 3:30 AM causing multiple wooden power line supports to collapse dropping electrical lines across Bert Kouns and in the neighborhood around New Castle Blvd. and Aragon Drive.  As a result, there were numerous power outages and even a single vehicle accident in the area.

At the time of the incident, the weather was mostly clear and the winds calm.  Failure of rusty, 27 year old cable mounts at the sub station were to blame.

Repairs are expected to last several more days.
