Flooded Houston-area river expected to fall slowly

Posted: Updated:
Residents of two subdivisions along a swollen suburban Houston river are ducking flooded roads left by heavy rains this week.

The Northshore and Belleau Wood subdivisions north of Humble (UHM'-bl) sit along the shores of the flood-prone West Fork of the San Jacinto River. Many of the homes are elevated to avoid flooding, but floodwaters limit access to and from parts of those neighborhoods.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for moderate lowland flooding for the area effective through Friday morning with waters cresting at a foot above flood stage early Thursday before beginning a slow fall.

Meanwhile, a survey team says the damaging winds that hit Alice in South Texas Tuesday evening was a weak tornado packing winds of 73 to 113 mph. No injuries were reported.
