State Auditors question LSU Scholarships

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La - The Louisiana State Auditor issued a report about scholarships to LSU System schools awarded by the Board of Supervisors.

Each member of the Board of Supervisors can award up to20 scholarships per year for tuition to LSU undergraduate, law, and medical schools.  The Board of Supervisors makes the decision on who gets the award, and the official guidelines call for the recipient to have a strong academic record, special talents, or a financial need.

But the auditor found that documentation to show the students selected were eligible was lacking.  The audit, which covered 2012-2013, highlighted the poor handling of applications for the scholarships.

Administrators with the LSU system say the issue was a matter of tweaking the application process to make their records more consistent.
