More rain likely for parts of soaked Arkansas

Posted: Updated:
Forecasters say parts of rain-soaked Arkansas can expect more showers.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock said Sunday that a flash flood watch remained in effect through Monday evening in counties in the northwestern and central parts of the state.

Forecasters said new shower and thunderstorm systems will affect the state through Monday evening. An additional two to three inches of rain is expected, and some of the heavy rainfall will accumulate rapidly at times. The higher rainfall amounts could lead to excessive runoff and flash flooding.

Heavy rains over the past several days have saturated soils and resulted in rises in streams and rivers in the area. Additional heavy rainfall could quickly lead to flash flooding at low-water crossings and streams, as well as significant rises on rivers.
