Inmate causes $8,000 in damages to Arkansas jail

Posted: Updated:
Hempstead County, Ark. -

An Arkansas inmate caused about $8,000 to a local jail.

It happened at the Hempstead County Jail last Thursday. Detention officers were called to the Felony Pod (F-Pod) where they found inmate Rodolfo Alberto Martinez walking back in forth in the area in front of his cell with an object in his hand.

Detention Officers ordered Martinez to drop the object and get on the floor and Martinez did so. It was later discovered that Martinez had broken out several windows with a piece of the door of the cell and knocked out two video cameras before detention officers got him under control. An internal investigation is underway to determine how Martinez was able to get the weapon.

Martinez reportedly caused about $8,000.00 in damage to the day room in the Felony Pod. Martinez was being held at the Hempstead County Jail after being convicted and sentenced in January to the Arkansas Department of Corrections for 25 years on a Rape and other charges. He has not yet been transferred to ADC because of overcrowding.
