Hundreds of new jobs coming to the area were announced Monday in Shreveport, along with a multi-million dollar investment in a local manufacturing facility.

Shreveport-based Module X Solutions will make a $7.4 million investment in a 750,000 square foot facility on Benton Kelly St., joining already existing tenant MB Industries.

"[Steve Schoonover] is all about the community and helping people to put back into the community when there's no jobs. And he has opened the doors for people to come on board," says employee Vyonne Stanley.

Vyonne and her husband Willie were chosen to be part-owners of Module X Solutions.

They're just a couple of the many more employees who will have a personal stake in the company's success.

"The owners, this is going to be an employee-owned company. That doesn't happen a lot and it's not an easy thing to do," says Module X Solutions CEO Steve Schoonover.

He says 357 new direct jobs and another 578 new indirect jobs will be created through the project. The average salary will be $49,800 per year, plus benefits.

"Thanks to a great business environment that we enjoy today here in Louisiana, thanks to a great workforce that we have, and thanks, in part, to an aggressive incentive package that was put together to build confidence in making the decision to move this project forward," says Don Pearson, with the State of LA Business Development Office, adding that there were several states in competition for the project.

Schoonover says his company will manufacture modular buildings for the telecommunications sector, as well as support MB Industries in their production of protective buildings.

Those buildings can withstand events like explosions, tornados and fires, and Schoonover says, while those are already produced domestically and globally, he's looking to expand even further.

"We also have a global group which sells to all the different countries in the Middle East, the Far East, we just completed a job in Kuwait."

But it's the employees here at home who say this is much more than just a job.

"He thought enough to see in my husband and myself to give us this opportunity to be part-owners," Stanley says.

Module X Solutions will receive a competitive incentive package that includes a $1.8 million performance-based grant, and a $1.8 million Economic Development Award Program grant.

The company will hire 274 new employees by the end of 2015, and complete hiring for all 357 new positions by the end of 2019.

The City of Shreveport currently owns the industrial property that houses MB Industries, and Module X Solutions will seek a long-term lease of the site, to be approved by the City Council.

The company will then begin filling jobs immediately, and complete renovation work by 2015.
