SHREVEPORT, La. -

This year’s KTBS 3 Tomato Throwdown is in the history books, a competition that almost didn’t happen. The two teams squared off this afternoon in our studio to see whose tomato is tops, but the contest got started late because one of the teams was delayed due to severe weather.

Once again it was Jacksonville, Texas versus defending champs Crystal Springs, Mississippi. Our neighbors to the west, Jacksonville won the competition which consisted of biggest, best plate of 3 and best tasting. Both teams say the secret to growing great tomatoes is in the soil.

The judges for today’s event were KTBS 3 Meteorologist Joe Haynes, Winzer Andrews from the Gentlemen’s Cooking Classic, Chris Davis who is a Cherokee County Judge from Jacksonville and lifelong Crystal Springs resident Mary Dell McCoy.

The Crystal Springs team was delayed by several hours due to storm debris that closed part of Interstate 20 in Mississippi.
