Rutledge wins GOP bid for attorney general

Posted: Updated:
Former Republican National Committee lawyer Leslie Rutledge has won the GOP nomination for Arkansas attorney general.

Rutledge defeated Little Rock attorney David Sterling in Tuesday's primary runoff. She will face Democratic state Rep. Nate Steel and Libertarian nominee Aaron Cash in the November election.

Rutledge is a former attorney for the RNC and has also represented ex-Gov. Mike Huckabee. She and Sterling both ran on similar vows to use the office to fight overreach by the federal government, but sparred over who had the best credentials and experience to do so.

Sterling is a former assistant city manager of Hope who has been in private practice for the past 15 years.
