SHREVEPORT, La -
Shreveport Police detectives are investigating a shooting that injured a man and sent a suspect to jail Saturday morning in downtown Shreveport.

Just before 4:00 a.m. on June 14, 2014, Shreveport Police officers were working in the 600 block of Commerce Street when they heard what

sounded to them to be gunshots emanating from a location close in proximity to their own.  Upon officer's investigation of the source of the shots,

they observed a male suspect standing near the intersection of Commerce and Fannin Streets, actively firing a handgun in the direction of

bystanders.

As officers prepared to engage the suspect, a second volley of shots coming from an area just west of the officers location, drew officer's attention to

what was described as a dark colored, Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  It was during that time, the initial suspect resumed firing his weapon.   In response,

both police officers engaged the initial suspect, firing their service weapons at the suspect, who fled the scene driving a white four door vehicle later

determined to be a Cadillac CTS.  The driver of the Monte Carlo also fled the scene of the shooting.  Both vehicles were observed heading north

bound on Clyde Fant Parkway immediately following the shooting.  During the melee, it was learned 21 year old Queshaun Ware sustained a non

life-threatening gunshot wound to the forearm.  In speaking with Ware, officers determined Ware's location to be behind that of police officers at the

time he was shot.  Ware was subsequently transported to University Health Medical Center where he was treated and released.  Officers working

the incident were able to quickly locate each vehicle and detain the drivers who were transported to police headquarters for interviews. Following

interviews with investigators, authorities later arrested and charged 27 year old Zachary Markray with Illegal Use of a Weapon.  Markray was the

driver of the Cadillac CTS, and based on evidence collected at the scene of the crime, was linked to the shooting. The second man, the driver of the

Monte Carlo, was not charged in connection with the shooting and was released following questioning. The two Shreveport Police officers involved

in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Shreveport Fire and Police Civil

Service Board.  As the investigation moves forward, authorities are asking persons with information about the shooting to contact Caddo Crime

Stoppers at (318) 673-7373 or on their website at www.lockeup.org
