Griffin's Good Life: Camille Hirsch

Posted: Updated:

A part of a local legacy, she's 85 years old and her living the good life revolves around the world of art…both as an artist and a teacher.
Louis Gabriel Sicard Sr who lived from 1897 to 1990, moved to Shreveport from New Orleans during the depression… and with him brought a  love of art. He not only was a talented painter widely recognized for his work including a couple of large murals which hang on the walls of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, but was also a talented teacher of painting.
One of his students, his daughter, Camille Sicard Hirsch, who today like her father, is not only a painter but a teacher. So, which does she mos t like to do… paint… or teach.
"Now that's hard. That's a hard question.  I think, maybe teaching.  I love to paint but I always make more time to be here with them. And a lot of time if I'm home and paint I don't make as much time there."  .
And Camille teaches her students more than just how to mix paints and use a brush.
"I teach them that the most important thing in a painting is value."
Besides a picture or two, the works of some of Camille's students are on display at the  Louisiana State Exhibit Museum.
The exhibit is entitled Camille Sicard Hirsch, artist and teacher, continuation of a Shreveport legacy.
The exhibition runs through June 27th
As for 85 years old Camille, she says she plans on continuing the good life with her painting and teaching as long as the lord will let  her.
