Trial date set for former dog owner accused of leaving animal for dead in storage unit

Posted: Updated:
The Shreveport man accused of leaving a dog to die in a storage unit last summer will head to trial Aug. 26.

Gabriel Lee previously pleaded "not guilty" to felony animal cruelty and received the August trial date Wednesday.

The abandoned dog, renamed Braveheart by new owners Bo and Ronda Spataro, was allegedly left chained to a car in the Youree Dr. unit without food or water.

He has since gained weight, and the Spataros charted his recovery on their Facebook page A Voice for Braveheart.
