15th Annual Gentlemen's Cooking Classic

SHREVEPORT, La - The Southern University at Shreveport Foundation will host the 15th Annual Gentlemen's Cooking Classic on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Shreveport

 Convention Center, 400 Caddo Street, Shreveport, LA, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event showcases culinary creations prepared and served by civic,

 political and community leaders from northwest Louisiana. For one day, gentlemen chefs trade their business suits, I-pads and smart phones for chef's hats,

 aprons and spatulas to prepare and serve their favorite culinary dishes. Proceeds from the Classic will fund scholarships for area students attending Southern

 University at Shreveport. The theme for this year's event is "Southern Cooking Meets Zydeco." John Hubbard, Manager of External Affairs for AEP

 SWEPCO, will serve as Chair of the event, and Helen Godfrey Smith, President and CEO of Shreveport Federal Credit Union, as Co-Chair. A popular

 feature of the Classic, "L'il Junior Chefs," chaired by popular local Chef Ernest Palmisano (Ernest's Orleans Restaurant), will spotlight the culinary talents of

 future chefs ages 7 to 13. The Classic's "Southern Gentlemen" honorees for 2014 will be S.P. Davis (Attorney), Neil Erwin (Attorney), Charles Scott

 (Caddo Parish District Attorney), Wayne Brown (Brown Builders), Reverend Joe Gant (Calvary Baptist Church), and Reverend Dennis Everrett (Lake

 Bethlehem Baptist Church). Also honored with the "Lee Michael's Award" for outstanding contributions to higher education will be Helen Godfrey Smith,

 Bishop Larry Brandon (Praise Temple Full Gospel Church) , James Elrod (Willis Knighton Health System) , Dr. Woodrow Wilson (Caddo Parish

 Commission), and Paul Pratt (Chesapeake Energy).The Classic has hosted more than 70 chefs and several thousand visitors since its inaugural celebration in

 1999. Ticket prices are $30.00 for adults and $10.00 for children ten and under, and may be purchased at the Foundation Offices at 610 Texas Street,
