Shreveport church is making sure kids in need get something to eat this summer

Posted: Updated:
A local church is making sure kids in its community won't go hungry this summer.

With help from the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, First Presbyterian Church has funded a pilot feeding program at Barret Academy in Shreveport. The program works along with the school's Monday through Thursday feeding program. It offers students bags of food containing milk, cereal, canned meals and more. Fifty students are being helped, so far. Organizers say the students are food insecure and encourage other organizations to partner up with schools for feeding programs.

First Presbyterian hopes to extend the feeding program into the fall.
