Louisiana lawmaker asks for equal pay for men and women

Posted: Updated:

Equal pay for equal work.

That is the mission for a group of Louisiana lawmakers and women's groups.

They are asking Governor Bobby Jindal to veto Senate Bill 359.

During a news conference Thursday, the group expressed concern that woman are the primary breadwinners in 40%  of U.S. households, yet they bring

home less than their male counterparts.

Louisiana democratic party chairman Karen Carter Peterson said  it was a setback in the fight for equal pay.

The pay gap is even greater for women of color.

African American women earn 64 cents and Latin women earn 56 cents for every dollar earned by a Caucasian man.
