Jacob Hester hopes to continue giving back to Shreveport

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La - The Jacob Hester Football Camp has become a Shreveport summer staple and for the former LSU fullback it's something he deems very important. Hester changed his 3 day format at Calvary to a one day clinic at Independence stadium to attract more campers and bring them to the heart of the city.

It was another successful showing as over 100 local kids participated in the camp that had some famous coaches like former LSU tigers Bennie Logan, Chase Pittman, Richard Dickson, and Richard Murphy. Current LSU quarterback and former Parkway Panther Brandon Harris was also there to help out and both he and Hester feel compelled to give back to their hometowns that gave them so much.

"I went to so many camps growing up. Every camp that was open in the summertime I tried going to because you can soak up so much knowledge from every different aspect. We've got guys out here that have played multiple positions. We've got guys who have played running back on the NFL, tight end in the NFL, defensive line in the NFL so any knowledge they can soak up from those people would be beneficial to them," said Hester.

"I think what he does for the community is big. He played in the NFL for x amount of years and getting the opportunity to come back and give back to Shreveport-Bossier, I think that's a big thing," added Harris.

"I want to do this every year. Shreveport gave so much to me while growing up playing at SPAR and at Southern Hills Park for Sunset Acres. They gave so much to me that I want to give back as long as I can," explained Hester.
