SHREVEPORT, La. -

Summer is in full swing, so you know what that means. It's time to fire up the grill! In fact, July is National Grilling Month.  When it comes to cooking steaks outside, everyone has their own idea of the best way to do it. Some even turn it into a serious competition.

More than a dozen grillers from across the south are hoping to reign supreme at the Brookshire's Louisiana Steak Cook-off to be held Friday at the KTBS 3 / KPXJ CW 21 Independence Day Festival along the riverfront in Shreveport.  The first place winner will walk away with a $2,000 prize at the Steak Cook-off Association sanctioned event.

Brookshire's Louisiana Steak Cook-off Timeline

  • 9am-10:45am - Cooks set up and register
  • 11am - Cooks Meeting / Steak Selection
  • 2:30pm-3pm - Grilling
  • 4:45pm - Awards

Portions of the tasty steaks will also be shared with those attending the festival. Those samples will be handed out between 3:15pm-4:15pm at the cook-off location along Clyde Fant Parkway in front of RiverView Hall. Brookshire's will also be serving up potato salad and baked beans.

We want you to share your top 3 grilling tips with us. Does it start with a special cut of meat? Maybe a magical marinade? Or is it all about the temperature of the grill? Look for this story on the KTBS 3 Facebook page and share your secrets with the rest of us. Be sure and "like" our FB page while you're there.  Help us take the guesswork out of summertime grilling and serve up the tastiest, juiciest dishes every time.
