Stay hydrated this Independence Day

Posted: Updated:
While we have lots of amazing events planned for you during the KTBS 3/KPXJ CW 21 Independence Day Festival, the Shreveport Fire Department wants you to stay safe and cool over the holiday weekend.

They're asking everyone to stay hydrated and wear clothing that will protect them from the sun, like a breathable baseball cap.

EMS officer Clarence Reese said cases of heat stroke and exhaustion go up on Independence Day.

"It can be very dangerous. Last year in the hot summer months we probably had 18 transports that needed serious intervention," said Reese.

University Health is helping you beat the heat by giving out 3,000 fans to the first 3,000 fans who come to the festival.
