BHP Billiton donation to benefit YMCA

An announcement on Monday brings together commerce and community service. 

BHP Billiton announced a $10.7 million donation for the local YMCA of Northwest Louisiana.The project is part of the company's goal to give back to nearby communities.

A new facility called the Red River Fitness and Natural Sciences Campus will be housed on Clyde Fant Parkway and East Preston Avenue.

Officials with BHP say they are excited to impact the community in a positive way.

"This is perfect. We are on our campus for BHP Billiton and on this wonderful facility for Shreveport and the surrounding area; will be built surrounding our facility. Our employees are excited, we are excited and we are really excited to engage with the local community," said Tim Cutt, President of Petroleum and Potash.

BHP hopes to break ground on the project starting in 2015.

The total project could take anywhere from 36 to 48 months to complete.

 The price tag could cost well over $ 20 million. They are hoping for donations within the community.
