HAPPENING NOW - SFD responds to fire call at Shreveport high school

Firefighters were dispatched to Booker T. Washington High School around 2:30pm for light smoke that could be seen from windows. 

When they arrived they found flames and heavy black smoke in the hallway.

Fire officials interviewed contractors on the scene and they stated that they were using a solution and buffer to strip floors. The buffer and solution ignited, sparking the fire. Damage was contained to a hallway. 

One contractor suffered minor burns to the leg, but was not transported.


(SHREVEPORT, La.) -- Several Shreveport Fire Department units are on a fire call at Booker T. Washington High School. It's in the 2100 block of Milam Street.

There's said to be smoke in the building, but no flames.

KTBS 3 News has a crew on the way to the scene and will have more on this story as it develops.
