Child killed, two others injured in single vehicle crash

Posted: Updated:

We're learning more about a deadly traffic accident this week in Bossier Parish. Louisiana State Police officials tell KTBS 3 News a child was killed and two other people were seriously injured in the crash Tuesday in Haughton.

The single vehicle accident happened a little before 2pm in the 2400 block of Bellevue Road.  Inside the vehicle, authorities say, were April Maldonado, 31, and her two daughters ages 9 and 22 months.

Officials say they were headed south on Bellevue Road when for unknown reasons the vehicle veered off the roadway. Maldonado then overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle and struck an embankment. The vehicle then went airborne and hit a telephone pole near the rear door on the right side of the car.

The mother was unrestrained and received serious injuries.  The 9-year-old girl was in the passenger seat of the car and was also unrestrained. She also received serious injuries.  The 22-month old child was seated in a car seat near the rear-right side door and was taken by LifeAir to University Health where she died Tuesday evening.

Blood samples and Toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
