Warrant issued for suspect in shots fired incident in Shreveport

A local man is wanted by Shreveport Police in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred last month. Just before 8:00 p.m. on June 24, officers were called to the 2100 block of Laurel Street relative to a “shots fired” call. Upon officer’s arrival at the scene, information was gathered indicating a group of male subjects fired multiple rounds from handguns, at a man driving a white SUV. Several shell casings were located and collected by officers at the scene.Shreveport Police Violent Crimes investigators assigned to the case have since gathered information and evidence linking a local man to the crime. 

James Merritt, 41, of Shreveport, has been named as a suspect in the incident. Authorities believe Merritt was one of the men shooting at the victim. A warrant for the arrest of Merritt has been issued charging him with a single count of illegal use of a weapon. Bond in the matter has been set at $150,000.
