Continuous coverage of the KTBS 3/KPXJ CW 21 Independence Day Festival

What an amazing night!  A record crowd, estimated at between 70,000 and 100,000, was stunned by an amazing fireworks display sponsored by Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Homes.  Then, Shreveport native Michael Love took the MetroPCS stage to everyone's delight.  Thanks for joining us tonight and we hope you've had a wonderful July 4th.  We'll see you again next year.

Wow!  Rodney Atkins is really a crowd pleaser.  RiverView Park is packed!

A huge crowd enjoys the music of the legendary B.J.Thomas.

Lucky fans who won a KTBS 3 online contest got a unique opportunity to meet Rodney Atkins during the meet & greet outside of his tour bus.

B.J. Thomas on stage.

Johnny Joseph of Milam Construction & James Ingram are the winners of the Brookshire's Louisiana Steak Cook-off.

We couldn't pull this off without the incredible help from the city and all of our sponsors.  Here are Catherine & Samantha from SPAR.

Shreveport favorite Windstorm performs on the MetroPCS Stage beginning at 5pm.

The fireworks have been carefully loaded onto the barge and will be making their way up the Red River soon.  You don't want to miss the spectacular fireworks display tonight about 9:15 courtesy of Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Homes.

The life jacket giveaway is underway courtesy of the Red River Waterway Commission. Safety first!

The LeBlanc Pediatric Dentistry Children's Area is now open.  Fun for all!

Here's Brooke Moran with Brookshire's handing out the steaks.  Good luck to all the cooks in the Brookshire's Louisiana Steak Cook-off!

You couldn't ask for better weather.  The kids (and some adults) are having an awesome time playing the the fountains.

The Selfie Stations are a hit!  Be sure and take a moment to take a picture and send it to ushare@ktbs.com #ktbssalutes.  Here's the Faulk family enjoying the afternoon.

...and the Carter family!

The LeBlanc Pediatric Dentistry Children’s Area is coming together.  Soon it will be packed with little ones having a great time.  There are plenty of inflatables and interactive things for children to do.  The area opens at 2pm.   Also, the Red River Waterway Commission will hand out hundreds of life jackets as part of their water safety program.

This is what the grillers in the Brookshire's Louisiana Steak Cook-off are all fired up about.  The first place winner takes home a $2,000 prize and gets to compete in the national competition.  All steaks will be provided by the BLSC. Each team will be given 2 competition steaks to cook and will turn in the best one for judging.  Don't forget to take advantage of those FREE steak samples that will be passed out between 3:15pm-4:15pm!

Balloon arches by Lasting Impressions at the KTBS 3 Selfie Stations.  Be sure and stop by, we have several of them, snap a pic or two and send to ushare@ktbs.com #ktbssalutes.  We'll be showing them on the air this evening when our live coverage begins at 5pm.  We hope to see you down here!

The MetroPCS stage is set for this evening's entertainment.  Be sure and get here early and grab a good spot.  The Opening Ceremonies kick off around 4:30pm with the Posting of the Colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem by Jeremiah Coleman, and Ken Krefft reciting the Declaration of Independence.  The winner of the Brookshire’s Louisiana Steak Cook-off will also be recognized.  Tonight's entertainment features local favorite Windstorm, the legendary B.J. Thomas, country star Rodney Atkins and Shreveport native Michael Love wrapping things up after the fireworks.

Grilling steaks is serious business at the Brookshire's Louisiana Steak Cook-off.  Cooks use everything from the simple backyard grill to elaborate set-ups, hoping to take home the top prize along with bragging rights.  The event, which kicks off later this morning, is sanctioned by the Steak Cook-off Association.  Delicious samples will be given to the public between 3:15pm-4:15pm.  Also, Brookshire’s will be serving up potato salad and baked beans. By the way, July is National Grilling Month.

The Farmers' Market at Festival Plaza is a tasty place to be bright and early on July 4th.   Local vendors are displaying their delicious homegrown fruits and vegetables and shoppers are eager to make their purchases. The mission of Shreveport Farmers' Market is to encourage a strong local food system; increase sustainability of independent local farmers, ranchers, and food producers; and foster stewardship of land and community through public markets.
