Texarkana celebrates "Sparks in the Park"

Posted: Updated:

Texarkana celebrates the Fourth of July holiday with fireworks, food, and music.

The annual "Sparks in the Park" event kicked of Friday afternoon at the Four States Fairgrounds.

Red River Army Depot brought four military vehicles and a "support the troops" banner for the public sign.

There was also an ice cream eating contest, petting zoo, and play area for the children.

Texarkana resident Melvin Fagan says it's important to remember what the holiday symbolizes.

"Independence day to me means, I have the freedom to be an American to go about my daily life to enjoy to freedom that our troops and our forefathers gained for us and it's something I take as a very special day," said Fagan.

The fireworks show is set for 9:30 p.m.
