Changing stripes; Grambling's Interim President committed to athletics

Posted: Updated:
Grambling, LA -  Grambling Interim President Dr. Cynthia Warrick has announced the hiring of new Athletic Director Patricia Cage-Bibbs.

On her first day in her new job last week Warrick fired former Athletic Director Aaron James in a move that was clearly due, at least in part, to the disgraceful conditions Grambling Athletes had been forced to suffer with for what some have said was for years.

Warrick says Bibbs is a perfect fit for the university, "I needed folks that will work well with me and my attitude about putting students first and I think that's really what drove my decision because we need to be very sensitive to their needs.  And the type of folks I want working with me put students first."

Bibbs, a Grambling alum, has a coaching career that spans 3 decades and includes two different runs with the Lady Tigers. "She holds the record for the most wins of any HBCU coach in any sport.  Our athletic programs will excel under Coach Bibb's leadership," says Warrick.

Dr. Warrick also addressed the conditions that pushed the football team to boycott an entire week of practice and one game last season.  She says that the university has already tackled those issues, "We toured the locker room and everything looks great over there now.  I think they've addressed those issues.  I've asked the athletic department to give me a list of their equipment needs and other types of infrastructure and technology so we can support them and insure that they have everything they need to be a top ranked program."
