Michael Vick comes to Shreveport

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -  From first overall draft pick to convicted felon, Michael Vick has had a career unlike many others.  While it wasn't football that has brought him to Shreveport, Vick still found time to convey a strong message to local athletes at Independence Stadium.  "Let's face it, there's a lot of people who go through a lot of things in life.  They may give up, they may take a back seat, they may not feel like it's worth moving forward, but I think for me to continue to move forward is just as important as not giving up.  If I do, then what kind of example do I set to the kids that I talk to week in and week out?  Kids that I try to send a message to," says Vick.

The hundreds of kids that showed up to Vick's camp were eager to hear what the NFL quarterback had to say.  Southwood high school cornerback Marquallius Turner said, ""It was truly amazing to see a big athlete superstar to actually come to a small city like this."

If Vick could teach anything to the young football players in Shreveport, it's that things don't always go as planned, saying, "I hate to tell people what I went to school for because it kind of contradicts a lot of things that I went through in my life, but I wouldn't say I wanted to be a police officer but I wanted to be in the FBI."

While many kids at the camp may have been too young to remember Vick in his prime, they all had fond memories of him on the popular Madden video game franchise.
